Besides our Adult Ministries ‘Mid-Week-Gathering’ Livestream at 1:30 pm every Wednesday, we heard that people were craving ‘in-person’ connection and partnership. How to address this need during a COVID-19 Global Pandemic when indoor gatherings are not permitted?
As of March 2021, Bonney Henry, our Provincial Health Officer, added a ‘Variance’ to the Health guidelines, which permitted outdoor gatherings for up to 50 people. Although all participants must observe social distancing, mask wearing and contact registration and tracing, this ‘variance’ allows us to hold an Outdoor Worship Service at an appropriate location. After applying and receiving a Municipal permit, we held our first ‘In-Person’ Service on Sunday May 2nd at 2:00 pm at the SE end of Powell Beach in Trout Creek. Services will continue weekly through June 6th.
Each gathering highlights a time of music performed by either Back Porch Gospel Bluegrass Band, or the Okanagan Tenors, a Special Guest Testimonial, an engaging ‘Story’ and a short Devotional. For each of the 6 weeks in this series, we are looking at one of the Beatitudes from Matthew chapter 5. Although these Beatitudes were first voiced in Jesus’ ‘Sermon on the Mount’, we have found them to be just as relevant as a ‘Sermon on the Beach’! Our guest testimonials have been from Grad 12 Graduate students, and others from our local community who have had a transformative encounter with Jesus.
To date each Service has been ‘booked solid’ with folks attending from Summerland, Penticton and the surrounding area. Although on-line registration fills up quickly, anyone can choose to register, bring their beach chair, face mask and a warm jacket, and join us as we ‘Meetcha @ the Beach’!
We are Summerland Baptist, a vibrant, multi-generational church family committed to following Jesus together. We believe that every person and situation can be transformed by Jesus Christ and therefore we are dedicated to reaching, deepening and restoring as we follow him.
