Have you noticed the subtle cultural current in churches today affecting those who are approaching or enjoying retirement, to disconnect from the younger generation or be hesitant as to how to engage them? I see this happening in church after church as the numbers who volunteer in children and youth ministries declines, music style becomes an ‘issue’ and as trips and personal activities take a higher priority than investing in the coming generation.
At best, grandparenting in our culture has become defined by time spent and fun had (and maybe a bit of spoiling!). The Biblical model of intentionally and creatively passing on a godly legacy to the next generation would produce an amazing cultural shift in our churches and communities. To this end, we (the South Okanagan Courageous Grandparenting Coalition made up of people from 5 churches/communities) have designed and planned the first Courageous Grandparenting Conference to be held at Summerland Baptist Church on October 26-27, 2018. This conference will feature great speakers, engaging music, some terrific resources that will be included with registration, yummy snacks and a full lunch on the Saturday.
If you are a Grandparent/Uncle/Aunt, or have friends and acquaintances who are in the ‘formative’ time of their lives, would you consider viewing the video below, and attending the Courageous Grandparenting Conference being held at SBC on October 26 & 27?
There is no greater purpose or joy than intentionally and creatively passing on a godly legacy to the next generation!
