Equipping for the Future

Our youth department is a big fan of the Canadian Youth Workers Conference. Eight of them joined together with all kinds of youth workers from the BC interior, on October 26 & 27 for the first of eight stops across Canada. They all found it both inspiring and applicable. Parts of this conference are highly collaborative and they even had the chance to share about what God is doing in Summerland a few times!

Here’s what some of them had to say about their experience:

The CYWC was an amazing experience for me because it gave me lots of good and practical ways to connect with the youth in our community. My biggest take away from the conference is that youth respond to people who are authentic and who really walk a Christ led life.  Nathan Barg

I really appreciate that each year at CYWC we dive into really relevant issues. I always come away feeling informed and equipped in areas that seemed so daunting. The other thing I love about this conference is their priority for the individual health (mentally, spiritually and physically) of youth workers. This is the focus of Friday night and this year that part was really meaningful for me.  Tianna Riemer

My take-away from the weekend: wWhen it comes to passing on our faith, the way that we live it out is what is most important.  Erin Selles

It always impresses me how much the leadership of CYWC cares for youth workers. They do not just say it either, they show it with taking time to have one on one conversations with anyone willing to engage them. They truly walk the walk and talk the talk when it comes to discipling others and what a great example that is for our crew. I was really impressed by Jason Ballard from Youth Alpha project as he shared Saturday morning about we are all called to be men and women of character. That character, not competence, is the pre-requisite for leadership and disciple-making. I am so grateful that I am surrounded by a team of youth workers at SBC that are men and women of Godly character.  Lee Young

The CYWC was such a wonderful weekend of worshipping our God, praying and spending time together. I really enjoy learning how to better care for our youth and I’m really looking forward to next year’s conference, and getting to know even more youth workers!   Colleen Mah
