It's Just a Phase, So Don't Miss It
Pastor Lee Young
A phase is a time frame in a kid’s life when you can leverage distinctive opportunities to influence a kid’s future.
Every one of us can point to somebody who showed up to make a difference in the different phases of our life. And because someone showed up for us, we can show up for somebody who needs us now in whatever phase they’re in. One of the best ways to show up is to understand the six things every kid and teenager needs.
1. Time / Time = History
Spending time with someone over a period of time gives a relationship history.
2. Love / Time = Worth
Giving love over time gives a kid worth.
3. Words / Time = Direction
Words over time give a kid direction.
4. Stories / Time = Perspective
Stories over time give a kid perspective.
5. Tribes / Time = Belonging
Tribes over time gives a kid a place to belong
6. Fun / Time = Connection
Having fun over time gives a kid connection
The key to all six points is time. Investment does not happen overnight, nor is it ever too late to start. Just like any investment we make, the longer we have, the more return is possible. Of course in the life of a child or teen, one key moment can make a big difference. I realize that it sounds like I am talking out of both sides of my mouth here but I am not.
The long term, everyday, small things we do and say for our kids is so important. Reading stories from the Bible and from Dr. Seuss. Providing spaces and groups of people that can become a part of their tribe. Having fun in the everyday moments build up over time that connects us together.
Take time this week and next to make an intentional effort in the life of a kid, teen or even young adult in your life.
