One Piece of the Puzzle
By Pastor Del Riemer
Have you ever felt insignificant or disconnected from people or a group? Imagine if you were no longer able to serve, participate in, or even attend meetings, fellowship gatherings, services, celebrations and events which had been a large part of your life in the past. How would you feel? Useless? Isolated? Lonely? Forgotten? This disconnect can happen to any of us and can be because of failing health, age, loss of mobility, loss of a driver’s license, or relocation.
We have many who have been involved at SBC who can no longer attend or participate because of one of the issues noted above. So how can we communicate to these dear ones that they are not forgotten… that they still belong and are a valued part of SBC and the Kingdom and Body of Christ? Scripture reminds us that the Body is made up of Remnants (a small part of what remains) and Parts! “Even as the body is One and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.” I Corinthians 12:12
Back on January 17th, Beacon Initiatives and SBC Adult Ministries held an event for those in our church family who are no longer able to attend services and events but who are valued and not forgotten!
A Lunch was held at Zia’s where many of our folks picked up these ‘Guests of Honor’ and transported them to the restaurant. To illustrate our point of them being ‘Part of the Unified Body of Christ’ (and SBC), each table was given a portion of a Jigsaw puzzle to complete. The puzzle sections were then all put together to complete the entire and unique Picture. Each of us are one piece of that picture and if missing… there is a glaring hole to be filled! Our gathering included an inspirational devotional, singing, stories and a wonderful meal put on by Shannon and her staff.
Laughter, smiles and great friendships were renewed as we were reminded of the truths of Scripture: “I will make the lame a remnant and the outcast a strong nation, and the Lord will reign over them.” Micah 4:7.
“The remnant of Judah will take root downward, and will bear fruit upward. For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant. The Zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.” Isaiah 31-32
What great reminders, that we as Jesus followers are all part of the great family of God, even in our weakness and uniqueness. The finished picture of this rag tag gathering is a clear picture of ‘Him’!
