What's Next, Papa?
By Pastor Mikel
Discerning God’s will is a wonderful task that we have been given; the process of drawing near to the Lord and seeking his voice and leading is a fantastic adventure to be on. I want to have the same attitude that Peterson describes in the Message translation in regards to discerning God’s direction, “This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” (Romans 8:15).
Over the last number of months, we have been discerning where God wants the high school youth to go on a mission’s trip in 2014, essentially asking, “What’s next, Papa?” After examining various options, we have sensed that God wants us to go back to Grenada. This is not the first destination I had in mind, but as we have gathered to seek God’s voice I’m convinced that this is the door that God has opened for us.
The Granada mission trip will have us partner with seeds international. The mission focus will be working with a number of schools in providing Gospel based school-wide assemblies. These assemblies provide a terrific time for our youth to dig deeply into their spiritual walk as they share their faith. This trip also allows our youth to experience the developing world firsthand and hopefully establish future seeds of missionary kingdom-building for Jesus Christ. Currently, the Grenadian Ministry of Education allows Bible-based curriculum into their schools and through the relationship with Seeds International they have projected that over the last seven years, the majority of elementary students in Grenada have had the gospel presented to them. What an incredible opportunity this is to engage in transforming an entire generation of Grenada for Jesus Christ!
As you read this and you feel the Spirit’s nudging you to support this mission initiative, there are a number ways that you can help. First, if you’re in high school, you can apply to participate in the mission trip. Secondly, if you are a parent and you want to join your child on this trip you can also apply. Thirdly, you can make a financial contribution and support one of the missionary participants. Fourthly, and most importantly, we would covet your prayerful support.
