Whatever You Do
By Pastor Del Riemer
Did you know that every Tuesday afternoon, 4 - 8 ladies converge on the SBC Fireside Room and set up tables, bandage rollers, ironing boards and knitting stations to produce a vast variety of items for use in third world countries? This ministry is called ‘Ministry Crafts’ and it has been functioning here at SBC for over 20 years.
This Fall, a group of 20 enjoyed lunch in Penticton and then headed over to the South Okanagan Canadian Food For Children Headquarters for a tour. This depot/warehouse is a beehive of activity manned by volunteers from several South Okanagan communities. The diversity of items collected, repaired, washed, packaged and shipped is amazing, with over 30,000 lbs of new and used items shipped every 2 months. In addition, CFFC partners with the Okanagan Gleaners to send millions of dry soup portions around the world. Some of the items shipped are: shool supply boxes for children, sewing supply boxes, shoes, sports equipment, medical supplies, carpentry kits, earthquake kits, clothing bales and much more.
Our SBC group of ladies (men are welcome by the way!) have been preparing and sending second hand, recycled and new items to the Penticton Depot for shipping over many years, to the point that I have no idea how many bandages, blankets, newborn beanies, blankets and other items have been produced over this time frame. I am always amazed at how simple ‘time’ and tasks completed with thankful hearts are used by the Lord to transform & renew people’s lives.
This team is always looking for more people to partner with them in producing these items. If you are interested, please come to the Fireside Room on Tuesday afternoons from 12:30 – 2:30 pm and use your personal availability to change lives for the sake of the Kingdom.
"Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:15-17
